The Hamilton County Amateur Radio Public Service Corps (ARPSC) is a 501 C(3) Non-Profit Organization that provides both public service and emergency response communications. ARPSC was formed in response to the super-cell tornado outbreak of 1974. We have a long and storied history of providing skilled communications services, in times of need, to our served agencies.
As an all volunteer organization, we work to provide communications when needed. Some of our past deployments include the Ohio River flood of 1997; floods along the Great Miami, the Little Miami and the Miami Whitewater rivers and during the loss of the Great Miami bridge at Miamitown. Three of our members were also deployed to the Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in support of the Red Cross and its shelters.
We also provide communications for various walks, marathons and other community events. We help out with the Pray, Hope, Believe 5K and the Lebanon Carriage Parade every year.
We also worked with police, fire, ambulance and other emergency services. Many of our members also work with other local amateur radio groups as well. For example, many of our members are trained weather spotters and work with the Weather Amateur Radio Network (WARN) and the National Weather Service when needed. Others work with the American Red Cross and the Queen City Emergency Net (QCEN). We have agreements with many of the local CERT groups and many of our members have taken the CERT Training and are part of those same groups.
We not only provide emergency communications to the community, we also take time as a club and as friends to take part in many of our own fun activities. We have regular Monthly Meetings, get together for picnics and dinners through out the year and take part in various Amateur Radio events, such as Field Day, the Ohio QSO Party, the Ohio State Parks on the Air Event and the Scouting Jamboree on the Air to name a few. We all like to have a little fun and enjoy the company of our friends and family in our hobby.
We sponsor the Tri-State Amateur Traffic Net (TATN), which is the local Affiliate net for the ARRL’s National Traffic System . This net handles all types of radio message traffic into and out of the Tri-state area and provides numerous net control operators with constant training in passing messages, and handling communication nets. The Tri-state Amateur Traffic Net is also a training net and our members are encouraged to participate for the purpose of improving their message handling, and associated, skills.
