On October 7, 2017 in conjunction with the Hidden Valley Indiana Garage Sale Day, the Laughery Valley Amateur Radio Club will be having a Hamfest (a garage sale of amateur radio equipment and related accessories) in the Pool Parking lot at 20660 Lakeview Drive, Lawrenceburg Indiana. (This should be the address for your GPS or Google maps).
There are several licensed “ham” (short for amateur) radio operators in Hidden Valley. Many are members of the Laughery Valley Amateur Radio Club and are volunteers in RACES and ARES. RACES is the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) which is part of Homeland Security and responds with emergency communications when needed or to provide additional safety to events such as large gatherings and charity runs like the Lawrenceburg Pregnancy Care run/walk every year. ARES is the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) which also provides communications in emergencies.
These licensed operators give generously of their time to provide reliable communications to local residents in the event of an emergency. Phone and internet are often the first things to go in a disaster!
Hams often, though, collect more equipment than they need and sometimes leave almost new equipment in their estates.
There will be a lot of lightly used/nearly new radio equipment of all types for sale and certainly some parts only buys.
For more information on the garage sale (hamfest), on the operation of LVARC/RACES/ARES and on how you can get licensed or join you can visit the Laughery Valley Amateur Radio Club website for contact information. http://www.lvarc.net/
